ORIGINS and EARLY DAYS 2010-2011
Prior to the creation of Stevie Jones and The Wildfires I'd already been having forays into a full band line up gigs occasionally as Treehouse or Stevie Jones Band with Mark Gill guitar, Tim Harrison bass, Pete McAlinden or Paul Kelly on drums. This would have been around 2002-2005 ish. Gigs at Sawyers and Wayfarers, Kettering; Twinfest, Northampton and Geddstock, Geddington are a few that spring to mind. The band set comprised manly of songs from my solo album 'New Life' with some covers occasionally thrown in.
2010 Debut as The Wildfires
After being offered a festival slot at Summer Sundae, Leicester August 2010 and Mark and I decided to assemble a full band for it featuring Andy Griffiths (bass) and Joe Burton (drums) - both who we knew from the Leicester music scene and Sean Clutterham on harmonica.. So that's when the name was first used. I'm not sure which name came first Stevie Jones and The Wildfires or my open mic/events promo name Wildfire Sessions but anyway it came from my song 'Wildfire' as it was always a centre piece of my set. I liked the idea of the music spreading like a wildfire too...Our debut was actually at The Musician as a warm up show a few nights before on 11/08/2020 and Dean Sharman captured the set through the desk.
Xmas 2010 and January 2011
Wildfires 2nd line up. We lasted two gigs. I was joined with Mark Gill Sean Clutterham Andy Griffiths and Paul De Gallier who replaced Joe Burton. Xmas 2010 we played a charity gig for Shelter back at The Musician and then in the January we got booked to play a show at Derby Uni by my friend Steve Faulkner. Was a school night gig I seem to remember and we sounded good. The sound engineer emailed me a recording of it and I didn’t download it before the link expired - so it got lost in the bootleg heavens. Shame. Band then gets shelved and Mark and I focus on the duo again..
