FALSE GODS

And they stand
In a huddle with clipboards
Plans in hands
Flash jackets by the meadow
Pointing up
At the propsed warehouse height
To impose dark shadows
On the skyline

You're worshipping these false gods
Like it's the only way
With millions in the Caymans
And nature's swept away

Ancient woods
Merge into the younger pines
Silver birch
Blackthorn hedgerow
Oak and lime
Skylark song
Badgers foxes bats and deer
Wildflowers
Butterflies fill the air

You're worshipping these false gods
The gates to minimum wage
With millions in the Caymans
And nature's swept away

Security guard pours his flask for more coffee
Fork lift rolls past these high shelves
So empty
Cathedrals of boredom
Where time stands still
Hallowed halls
Of tax avoidance on once green hills

You're worshipping these false gods
Like it's the only way
Another brown envelope
And nature's swept away

Swept away
Swept away
Swept away
Swept away
Swept away
Swept away
